Hi there
As the end of the financial year draws close, I’ve been reflecting on the next 12 months and as always, what I’d like my own business to strive towards.
Culture is one of those all-important elements of our success that we often find difficult to define. A quote I heard a couple of years ago from Janine Ellis of Boost Juice and Shark Tank fame really resonated with me then and still holds true now.
Culture is who you hire…how true is that?
As leaders we all want to create cultures that people want to belong to and as employees, we all want to work in a business that has an awesome culture and is a safe place to work.
What I have learnt is that one person is not the keeper of culture, we all are, so it makes sense that culture is who you hire.
Culture is not just about the fun times, today it is also about accountability, belonging, safety, values, behaviours, diversity, fairness, respect, recognition, trust, connection, wellness and much more.
If culture is who we hire, then leaders need to ensure that we have environments that bring the best out of our people and that includes all of the above.
A workplace culture that people want to belong to takes effort and authentic leaders.
There have been many changes around health and safety, psychological safety and discrimination. It has never been so critical for leaders and business to be proactive around setting in place policy and procedures. All of this is part of the culture of your business.
Remember, a good culture means good business.
Until next time.
